4 Hosting Tips for Your Christmas Book Club Meeting

Christmas Book Club Meeting

Alright, chances are your December book club meeting will be suspended because of all the holiday parties and social obligations that need our attention.

But, your meeting in November can be your Holiday themed book club assembly. So, here are some tips to add more fun your session and quite frankly, to remember that we are not just book geeks who get together but also friends.

1. Pick a Christmas themed book

Duh! Isn’t Christmas obvious? Actually, what I mean is that a specific Christmas theme, whether its literal, like “Christmas Angels” by Nancy Naigle or subtle like “Once Upon a Cowboy Christmas” by Soraya Lane for an angel-themed book reading.

Set in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, “Christmas Angels” is about you guessed it – Christmas angels, as in the ones you decorate your tree with and the ones that you put on your front lawn for your holiday display.

It follows Liz Westmoreland, a Project Manager from Charlotte and Matt Hardy, an architect from Chicago. Both have roots in the small mountain town of Antler Creek. While Matt had already built his house there and already contemplating of moving to Antler Creek permanently, Liz was still on the fence.

Liz bought her grandparents’ old inn and it was while renovating that Liz met Matt and the community of Antler Creek. Between renovations and reconnecting with the townspeople, Liz keeps on finding Christmas angels in the property.

Were the angels little miracles? Were they signs for her to stay? Or were they messages from her dead grandparents?

In “Christmas Angels” the angels were presented as the Christmas angels in a Christmas tree. But, they are more than that as you get to know Liz, Matt and the townspeople of Antler Creek.

Once Upon a Cowboy Christmas” by Soraya Lane is more subtle in its interpretation of angel, who in this story came in the guise of a cowboy,

Cody Ford is a Wall Street honcho with humble Texas roots. He can be a ruthless businessman, but he still has a soft heart when it comes to his family. And as it turned out, to his high school sweetheart Lexi Murphy who is currently the caregiver of Cody’s ailing father.

The history between Cody and Lexi is already hard to hurdle for them to give in to a second chance romance. But, there is also Lexi’s son, Cody’s father and Lexi’s mother to consider. Plus, all the property and business deals that Cody are juggling.

And though Cody tries very hard not to mix his personal life with his business, the Texas small town he grew up in just will not allow him. So, the question becomes – will Cody be a Scrooge, or will he be a Christmas angel?

Both Christmas Angels and Once Upon a Cowboy Christmas will be a good choice. And since, both are so short and both are easy read, why not do both? After all, you won’t be meeting in December. Two books in November will make up for the lost month.

2. Prepare a tasty treat

An unforgettable food spread could very well be the cherry on top of a perfect get-together. Attempt a secret family recipe or recreate a dish from your favorite cooking show — the options are endless.

Chipotle chicken tacos with grapes2Take the Chipotle Chicken and Grape Tacos for instance. It calls for rotisserie chicken — leftover chicken works well too — heated in a quick-blended chipotle sauce and then finished with California grapes and other toppings for make-your-own tacos. You can get the recipe here.

3. Exchange gifts

Because the theme of the book club meeting is angels, why not use it also as a theme for your exchange gift? There are lots of Christmas angels ornaments already available at this time of year. Set an affordable price for everyone and go shopping for the cutest Christmas angel you can find.

4. Swag bags and Party Favors

As I said before, swag bombs are the bomb. They always give everyone a smile. And the best reason – they don’t have to break the bank when you plan it right.

The holiday season always call for something red, white or green. Candy canes immediately come to mind. You can also give your guests festive red and green gummies from Goldbears. They come in five fruity flavors – Strawberry, Pineapple, Lemon, Orange and Raspberry.

The party favor is a popular way to win over guests and entice their return for future gatherings. As they leave, hand out mini bags of Goldbears and watch eyes light up.
