Book Review: How to Rescue a Rake by Jayne Fresina

How to Rescue a RakeIn this day in age, when more women choose to marry later, it is hard to imagine that just 200 years ago, an unmarried woman of 27 is considered an old maid and in her dotage. In the Regency Romance, “How to Rescue a Rake .” that is the situation that Diana Makepiece found herself in.

Breaking her engagement three years ago, she did not have any other prospects at all. Or does she? Captain Nathaniel Sherringham is back in town and he started creating havoc in Diana’s heart as he always does.

A romantic comedy with lots of laugh out loud funny moments, you will find Nathaniel and Diana as unconventional would-be lovers in “How to Rescue a Rake .” With Nathaniel very outgoing and Diana always quiet as a mouse, you will not suspect that there is simmering attraction between them that is ready to boil.

But, nothing will happen as long as they are in Hawcombe Prior where Diana’s mother who is very controlling and Nathaniel’s family who are very nosy all reside. They will have to go to another town, perhaps Bath (!?) for their love to blossom.

An easy read with many surprises, “How to Rescue a Rake ” is Rated M for Mature due to some sexual content.

Description

Nathaniel Sherringham has returned to Hawcombe Prior a changed man. Gone is the reckless rake who went out on a limb to propose to Diana Makepiece three years ago. Now Nate’s mysterious new wealth has the town’s rumor mill spinning. To stir things up (and get Diana’s attention), Nate boldly announces his plans to marry “any suitable girl” under the age of 25.

Diana, now 27 and still single, is acutely aware of Nate’s return. When her mother suggests a trip to visit a cousin in Bath, Diana leaps at the chance to escape the heartbreak and regret she can’t help but feel in Nate’s presence…and avoid his irritating charade to find a bride.

But for Nate, Diana has always been the one. He might just have to follow her to Bath and once again lay his heart on the line to win her attention—and her heart.
