Audiobook Review: The Walsh Series by Kate Canterbary

The Walsh SeriesHot architects! Smart women! The Walsh series is as much a romance as it is a family saga.

A total of seven books make up the Walsh Series by Kate Canterbary. Six siblings – Matthew, Patrick, Sam, Shannon, Erin and Riley Walsh – experienced a horrendous childhood after their mother died. But, even with their tragic past (which could have sent many to therapy), they are all successful in their careers. Patrick, Matthew, Sam and Riley are all successful architects. Shannon is a real estate lawyer and agent while Erin is a volcanologist.

The initial offering, “Underneath it All” is the story of Matthew. It also introduces the whole Walsh clan. It’s aptly titled as the first book of the series because readers realize that underneath the seemingly perfect life of these very successful siblings is a tragic family history.

To call these 7 books a series seems inadequate. I would rather call it a saga, even an epic. Kate Canterbary did not just write romances. She wrote a whole family history of the Walshes and backgrounds for their love interests.

Though the books are standalone, reading them chronologically will be more enjoyable. All the characters who were introduced in the first book continue to be part of the story until the final book. Kate Canterbary made it a tight collection, each book adding to the one preceding it yet surprisingly, each book can also read alone.

Christian Fox and Lucy Rivers were perfect as narrators. This series is not the first time that they narrated as a duo (not a duet, mind you) and they have a good rapport. Both Christian and Lucy voiced the respective characters very well.

As I listened, I can actually differentiate Matthew, Patrick, Sam and Riley from each other. That’s because of good writing by Kate Canterbary and good narration by Christian Fox. Same thing with Lucy Rivers. Shannon and Erin were two different people.

The Walsh series is Rated M for Mature due to sexual content. Please listen to them chronologically:
(1) Underneath it all (Matt’s story)
(2) The Space Between (Patrick’s story)
(3) Necessary Restorations (Sam’s story)
(4) The Cornerstone (Shannon’s story)
(5) Restored (Sam redux)
(6) The Spire (Erin’s story)
(7) Preservation (Riley’s story)
