In romance novels, the happily ever after is a given. It begins with that fateful meeting, the whirlwind courtship and then getting over the obstacles thrown their way, they live happily ever after.
“Allegra’s Song” is the story after the HEA. Nicholas and Allegra married young. Allegra was a beautiful debutante in her first season while Nicholas was a handsome commissioned officer who was also an aristocrat, their love for each other is what dreams are made of. After 8 years in the battlefield, Nicholas finally came home for good. And that’s when Allegra and Nicholas found out that HEA is not enough.
A poignant story that tugs at your heartstrings, “Allegra’s Song” is an enjoyable read that takes your breath away as you emphatize with the protagonists feelings. You can feel Allegra’s unshed tears and Nicholas’ tightness of breath. You want to hold them and tell them it’s going to be alright; but you also want to scream at them for being hardheaded. But, isn’t it how married life is all about?
