Straight from the headlines, “Like The Wind” follows pop star Bodhi Beckett and pet loving hair stylist Breeze as the duo escaped from a raging wildfire in coastal California. A friendship that was literally forged by fire, becoming lovers was an easy leap for both.
But their different backgrounds made their relationship untenable. Bodhi is a rock star on tour more than half of the year while Breeze is a homebody and a hairstylist who is just beginning to build her clientele.
Then, there is the baggage from their pasts that reared their ugly heads and might just be too big to hurdle.
The fourth book by J. Bengtsson that I have listened to, “Like The Wind” is aptly titled. It touched me softly… so gentle that I did not realize I was already deeply invested with the characters by the time I reached the third chapter.
The storyline is tight. Short, concise and to the point, J. Bengtsson writes with an economy of words that is so poetic. Best of all, the characters are so relatable. Case in point, both Bodhi and Breeze are Gen Z so terms like OTP (one true pair) made it to the book. J. Bengtsson has her fingers on the pulse of the current zeitgeist.
And with Zachary Webber voicing Bodhi, it was easy for me to imagine an American version of Harry Styles of One Direction. Webber has a great voice and his inflections give life to the character.
This is my first listen with Callie Dalton and she did not disappoint. She voiced Breeze perfectly.
Another great listen from J. Bengtsson! “Like The Wind” is Rated T for Teens. Parental guidance is strongly advised due to the harrowing escape from the forest fire.
