Adapted from the bestseller “Kaiser Karl” by Raphaëlle Bacqué, “Becoming Karl Lagerfeld” is set in the ‘70s, where the audience is plunged in the glamourous side of Paris, Monaco and Rome. It begins in 1972 when Karl Lagerfeld (played by Daniel Brühl) was 38 and not yet wearing his iconic hairstyle.

At that time, Lagerfeld was a ready-to-wear designer, unknown to the general public. It was also around the same time that he met and fell in love with the sultry Jacques de Bascher (playe by Théodore Pellerin), an ambitious and troubling young dandy.
The rivalry between Yves Saint Laurent (Arnaud Valois), a genius of haute couture backed by the redoubtable businessman Pierre Bergé (Alex Lutz) and Karl Lagerfeld began. This rivalry continued as long as both men were alive.
The six-part series follow the formidable blossoming of Karl Lagerfeld, a complex and iconic personality of Parisian couture, already driven by the ambition to become the Emperor of fashion. Between glamour and clashes of egos, grandiose parties and destructive passions, the audience discovers the story of Karl before Lagerfeld in this very intimate portrayal of the designer.
