Book Review: A Million Miles Away by Lara Avery

a million miles awayA poignant story of young love, “A Million Miles Away” begins in America’s heartland then goes to Paris with a side trip in Afghanistan.

Identical twin sisters Kelsey and Michelle might share their looks but not their temperament. Michelle is the quiet artistic one while Kelsey is the gregarious cheerleader. Yet, they share that invisible bond between twins. So, when Michelle died in a car crash, Kelsey felt she lost her other half.

Bereft with grief, Kelsey still needed to tell Michelle’s boyfriend Peter, who was just recently deployed in Afghanistan that his girlfriend is gone. Only 17, Kelsey found herself facing the realities of war through Peter’s eyes. With good intentions, she kept postponing telling Peter about Michelle while in the meantime Kelsey pretended to be her twin!

No good deed goes unpunished! The situation could only end in disaster and Kelsey knew it. And now, she had to tell Peter two truths – that Michelle is gone and that she, Kelsey is in love with him.

A Million Miles Away” is a tear jerker with Kelsey, Michelle, Peter and all the supporting casts pulling at your heartstrings. Author Lara Avery presented teen angst in a very sad yet explosive situation wherein there is no way to avoid heartache.

Your heart goes to Kelsey; your heart goes to Peter. You want to blame Kelsey, but you cannot. You want to blame the situation, but this is life, so how can you blame it.

A great read! Just make sure you have a box of tissues near you.

A Million Miles Away” is a Rated T for Teens due to some adult situations. There are no sex scenes in this book.

Description

When high school senior Kelsey’s identical twin sister, Michelle, dies in a car crash, Kelsey is left without her other half. The only person who doesn’t know about the tragedy is Michelle’s boyfriend, Peter, recently deployed to Afghanistan. But when Kelsey finally connects with Peter online, she can’t bear to tell him the truth. Active duty has taken its toll, and Peter, thinking that Kelsey is Michelle, says that seeing her is the one thing keeping him alive. Caught up in the moment, Kelsey has no choice: She lets Peter believe that she is her sister.

As Kelsey keeps up the act, she crosses the line from pretend to real. Soon, Kelsey can’t deny that she’s falling, hard, for the one boy she shouldn’t want.

Lara Avery delivers a breathtaking story of love and loss that is guaranteed to break your heart and sweep you off your feet.
