With the classic theme “finding love from the most unexpected place,” author Susan Stoker placed Grayson Rogers and Allye Martin, hero and heroine of “Defending Allye” in a rescue mission in the middle of San Francisco Bay.
Allye, the rescuee has a sassy mouth that former Navy SEAL and rescuer Gray Rogers found endearing especially with Allye’s Pollyanna attitude even faced with adversity. Perhaps it was love at first sight because even after Gray safely deposited Allye to her apartment in San Francisco, the Mountain Mercenaries member continue to worry about her safety.
And Gray’s gut feeling that Allye was still in danger was right. With Allye showing up in the Mountain Mercenaries retreat in Colorado Springs made the danger real. And with Allye’s kidnappers raising the ante, Gray and his team have to find a way to defend Allye and save the other victims of the kidnappers.
“Defending Allye” is a romance that dabbles a little as a thriller. There was not enough adrenaline pumping action to titillate the imagination of adrenaline junkies, but these scenes were enough to keep readers interested.
This is the first book in the “Mountain Mercenaries” series, so all players were introduced. The focus remained on Gray and Allye while giving just a glimpse of what these highly trained operatives do.
“Defending Allye” is Rated M for Mature due to violence and sexual content.

Summary
Ever since his rescue op off the Pacific Coast, Mountain Mercenary Gray Rogers hasn’t been able to forget his latest “job”—Allye Martin. Any other woman would have panicked during a rescue, but the wily dancer kept her cool—even after being kidnapped by an elusive human trafficker. And Gray couldn’t be happier when a grateful Allye follows him home to Colorado Springs…
For Allye, finding sanctuary in the arms—and bed—of the former Navy SEAL is only temporary. People are disappearing off the streets of San Francisco, victims of the same underground trade that targeted her, and Allye could be the key to dismantling the entire operation. She’s willing to do anything to bring them down. Gray isn’t—for good reason. But you don’t say no to a tough girl like Allye who refuses to play it safe.
Now Gray is risking more than ever before. The Mountain Mercenaries have his back. But is it enough to keep the woman he loves out of harm’s way?
