With the hero, Giovanni Roma being jilted at the altar in the first few pages of the book, “Dog Day Wedding” reminded me a very old song, “Alone Again, Naturally” by Gilbert O’Sullivan.
And for some strange reason, I though the storyline will follow the events outlined in the song. And thank goodness, it did not. Author Rich Amooi wrote a fast-paced romantic comedy with so many laugh out loud funny moments you will find yourself giggling the whole time you’re reading it.
Okay, some of the jokes were cliché. But, it did not really matter that you can see the punch line coming. It’s still very funny because of how Mr. Amooi told it.
It’s the story of Giovanni Roma and Natalie DeMarco, two Italian Americans whose parents and grandparent, respectively still adhere to many things Italian including their view on marriage.
So in between Giovanni being left at the altar and Natalie marrying another man in two weeks, the two would be lovers have to find time to fall in love!
There’s the dog Precious, for the titular title. Jacks, the fiancé, Natalie’s friends and Giovanni’s friends all come together to just be surprised in the end. It is so hilarious, there is just no way it will end well for either Natalie and Giovanni without everyone meddling in their love life.
Dog Day Wedding is Rated PG 13 due to some adult situations. There are no sex scenes in this book.
Giovanni Roma was jilted at the altar. Twice. Meeting Natalie is an enchanting distraction—too bad she’s engaged to another man. To top it off, Giovanni’s mother has a mouth with no filter and is obsessed with finding her son a suitable baby-maker.
Natalie DeMarco is a good cop with one problem. Cold feet. Her fiancé is a decent man, but she’s starting to wonder if decent is good enough. Maybe the doubts could be blamed on Giovanni, that guitar-making Italian hunk next door.
Giovanni knows he must do something, but things get out of hand when he learns he’s not the only one who objects to the wedding.
Dog Day Wedding is a fast, fun romantic comedy that gives new meaning to the term, “Shotgun Wedding.”
