Book Review: Free Bird by Kevin Cooley

Rating:

free birdHeart wrenching and tugs at your heartstrings, FREE BIRD is one of those rare books that gives us insight about ourselves, our family and the people we love.

It’s a war story, straight out of Iraq. It’s the story of Sean Murphy, the Marine handler of Free Bird, a bomb sniffing German shepherd who has risen to the exalted rank of Sergeant. It is the story of a Marine unit, Sean’s team. It is the story of the Murphy’s, Sean’s family back in Illinois. It is the love story of Sean and his girlfriend Jesse that he left behind when he enlisted.

I cannot say more because if I do I will spoil the story for everyone. I can say that the whole time I was reading it, Sean and Free Bird tugged at my heart strings. There were times when tears threatened to fall. But like Sean and Free Bird, I had to suck it in and be brave.

A great read and it is something that I will read over and over again simply because Sean and Free Bird are worth it. It has been 24 hours since I finished the book, but Sean and Free Bird have stayed in my heart. And now, the tears are falling. Being a military wife I just feel their sacrifice.

Thank you Kevin Cooley for writing this story; it hit me straight through the heart.

This book is Rated PG 15 due to war violence and some expletives. There are no sex scenes in this book.
