Book Review: His Wife for a While by Donna Fasano

Rating:

Close but No Cigar

Ben and Chelsea have two separate problems. Ben will lose his orchard if he does not marry within 21 days. Chelsea wants to have a baby but does not want the emotional involvement with a man. Teaming up to solve their problems, Ben and Chelsea got married. It would have been a perfect business arrangement until they fell in love.

The theme might have been overused but what made “His Wife for a While” stand out in the romance genre was it tackled the problems of child abuse. And it was great that this topic was discussed. But even with a very explosive topic, the book fell short. There were only three characters in the book that got screen time and only one of them came alive and it was the supporting character Aunt May.

Ben and Chelsea could have bee unforgettable characters but they fell flat. I don’t even know what they look like or what things they like. I don’t even know what Ben does except that he owns the orchard.

The story has its charm though. And that’s why I’m giving it 3 stars. It’s an easy read. I just wish that the author fleshed out the characters more. They had so much potential but as I said earlier, they remained two dimensional until the end.

This book is Rated PG 17 due to adult situation
