Book Review: Hold Your Breath by Katie Ruggle

hold your breathHold Your Breath,” the second book in Katie Ruggle’s “Search & Rescue” series brings the readers back to the remote Rocky Mountains. And this time, instead of just one mystery to solve, there are two! Talk about raising the ante!

A transplant from Connecticut, Louise “Lou” Sparks is the newest ice rescue dive team member. During a routine training session, Lou found a body. Yet, when the police checked on missing person reports in the area, there was none.

Out of curiosity and also a feeling of responsibility since she was the one who found him, Lou wanted to do some digging of her own. Surprisingly, she found help unexpectedly from Callum Cook, captain of Field County’s ice rescue dive team.

Lou should be happy for that development but since she has a huge crush on the Captain, she did not know if she can keep it under wraps if she was with him. She also has other personal problems. Adjusting to a new community and a new job, she might also have picked up a stalker somewhere. And she was not even sure if she should tell Callum about that.

A double mystery in one storyline, author Katie Ruggle has the readers guessing until the end. Lots of action worthy of a Michael Crichton flick, if ever this series is adapted into a screenplay, there are a lot of exciting scenes to watch. As is, Ruggle’s description will make your heart beat faster as you imagine our hero and heroine trying to achieve their goals. Add the romance between Lou and Cal, you have a romantic action thriller!

Hold Your Breath (Search and Rescue)” is Rated M for Mature due to violence and sexual content.

Lou’s new to the Rockies, intent on escaping her controlling ex, and she’s determined to make it on her own terms…no matter how tempting Callum may be. But when a routine training exercise unearths a body, Lou and Callum find themselves thrust into a deadly game of cat and mouse with a killer who will stop at nothing to silence Lou-and prove that not even her new Search and Rescue family can keep her safe forever.
