Book Review: I See You by Mary Burton

A police procedural in its core, “I See You” is also the story of a sleepy little town where murder and mayhem were not supposed to happen. But, it did and the police though fully capable and equipped might have been too late.

Both Zoe Spencer and William Vaughan are highly qualified investigators. Zoe is an FBI profiler currently working a desk job while recovering from a case related accident. William was a retired big city homicide detective and currently the sheriff of small-town Alexandria, Virginia.

For both Zoe and William, the discovery of the remains of a local girl who disappeared a decade ago was a cold case. But, as their investigation went deeper, it became obvious that the perpetrator was still very active. And with the discovery of more bodies, the crime became more horrific.

I See You” is not for the faint of heart. As author Mary Burton had mentioned in an interview, this villain is the most chilling yet.

While reading, I kept on trying to guess who the villain is. But, there were so many twists and turns that you will just keep on guessing until the villain was revealed.

A great read! If you can’t find time to read it because of the holidays, please make sure it is on your To Be Read List when January 2020 rolls around.

I See You” is Rated T for Teens. Parental guidance is strongly advised due to violence and some sexual content.

Summary

FBI special agent Zoe Spencer uses skeletal remains to recreate the faces of murder victims through sculpture. Though highly scientific, the process is also sensitive and intimate; she becomes attached to the individuals she identifies, desperate to find justice for each.

As Zoe examines old remains, she sees a teenage girl looking back at her—the victim in a cold case from over a decade ago. Zoe wants nothing more than to tell this young woman’s story and to bring her killer to justice.

Zoe’s case leads her to the victim’s hometown and to homicide detective William Vaughan, Zoe’s on-again, off-again lover. As the two become more involved in the case, they quickly realize that it isn’t as cold as they first believed: someone’s still out there hunting women. And with more women gone missing, time’s running out. Can they work together and stop this madman before he kills again?
