Book Review: It’s Getting Scot in Here by Suzanne Enoch

Laugh out loud funny, if there is a historical rom-com, then “It’s Getting Scot in Here ” is one! Suzanne Enoch catches your attention from the first page to the last. Her characters are so alive, her descriptions so vivid that you can see the story unfold in technicolor 3D in your mind’s eye.

This is the first book by Suzanne Enoch that I have read, and I am so glad that I did. In the highly competitive historical romance genre, Enoch’s voice had come out strong. Her characters are impish and have a zest for life. They might have “lived” 200 years ago, but their actions and reactions are so “of today.” Even their rebellious acts are relatable.

Now, that’s the end of my non-spoiler review. I have more to say but there will be spoilers. So, if you don’t want it, then this will be a good time to stop reading.

You’re still here? Just remember, you’ve been warned… So here goes…

I have so many historical romances that I stopped counting a long time ago. That said, I need to add that I have read about Gretna Green as the place to go for an elopement so many times that I have wondered how marriage is officiated over there.

Is it like being in Vegas where there is a place where you can get someone to marry you ASAP? Or is it like going in front of a judge?

In “It’s Getting Scot in Here ,” our hero and heroine Niall MacTaggert and Amelia-Rose Baxter, respectively, eloped to Gretna Green which happened to be part of Scotland. Needless to say, this is the first historical romance novel that I have read that actually tells what happens there!

For that alone, reading “IIt’s Getting Scot in Here ” is worth it. That there were some tense moments interspersed with some funny ones that I actually wished that Enoch could have written an extra chapter set in Gretna Green.

Now for those who are into trivia, Gretna Green still exists today, and it is still a wedding destination for the whole of the UK and possibly Western Europe. For romance junkies like me, it should be in our bucket list of places to visit.

It’s Getting Scot in Here ” is Rated T for Teens due to the elopement.

Description

The first in a wickedly seductive new Scottish historical romance series from New York Times bestselling author Suzanne Enoch!

“It’s time to fall in love with Suzanne Enoch.” — Lisa Kleypas

HAPPILY-EVER-AFTER
London socialite Amelia-Rose Baxter is nobody’s fool. Her parents may want her to catch a title, but she will never change who she is for the promise of marriage. Her husband will be a man who can appreciate her sharp mind as well as her body. A sophisticated man who loves life in London. A man who considers her his equal—and won’t try to tame her wild heart…

IN THE HIGHLANDS
Rough, rugged Highlander Niall MacTaggert and his brothers know the rules: the eldest must marry or lose the ancestral estate, period. But Niall’s eldest brother just isn’t interested in the lady his mother selected. Is it because Amelia-Rose is just too. . . Free-spirited? Yes. Brazen? Aye. Surely Niall can find a way to soften up the whip-smart lass and make her the perfect match for his brother for the sake of the family.

JUST GOT A WHOLE LOT HOTTER.
Instead it’s Niall who tempts Amelia-Rose, despite her reservations about barbarian Highlanders. Niall finds the lass nigh irresistible as well, but he won’t make the mistake his father did in marrying an Englishwoman who doesn’t like the Highlands. Does he have what it takes to win her heart? There is only one way to find out…
