Book Review: Lay Me Down and Darksider by Erin Kellison

lay me downThis is the first time that I will review two books in one write-up. With “Lay Me Down” and “ Darksider”, author Erin Kellison has the characters and the storyline so tight, it is hard to separate them.

Think of a mini-series on television, or even a show like “Falling Skies” at TBS. Though every episode is standalone, it hard to say which episode is which because the storyline is just seamless.

And that is exactly how I would describe the Reveler Series – a tight and seamless storyline. And that is the reason why I am writing one review for Lay Me Down (Reveler Series #2) and Darksider (Reveler #3)

Lay Me Down” follows Maisie Lane and Special Agent Steve Coll. A very accomplished dreamer with extraordinary talent, Maisie is being recruited by Steve for Chimera, the police force of the dream world. But, as they navigate the waking world and the dream world, they are finding traps that can kill them or worse, trap them in a nightmare.

darksider Darksider” (Reveler, #3) follows talented Chef Serafina Rochan who was one of the first subjects of “Reve” when it was still experimental. The dream world did not appeal to her, so she left and pursued her true passion – cooking.

But, the dream world would not leave her alone. A stalker in her nightmares also approached her in the waking world.

Enter Marshal Harlen Fawkes, a member of the elite force in Chimera. Serafina’s ex (and truth be told she has not gotten over him), Harlen has problems of his own about his work, which is essentially the dream world.

Still, to Harlen, Serafina comes first (he is still in love with her even after all these years). And like Maisie and Steve, Harlen is finding out that the dream world has dangers that they are just discovering. And to top it all, it looks like Chimera, the organization which is supposed to be keeping it safe, is at the center of these newfound dangers.

An adrenaline rush from beginning to end, in fact the ends of the books are always cliffhangers; author Erin Kellison literally has the reader biting fingernails at the last page!

The Reveler Series is highly addicting. It is also so exciting that I won’t be surprised if one of the networks or a cable channel puts an option on it!

This book is Rated M for Mature due to sexual content and sci-fi violence.
