Book Review: Left at the Altar by Margaret Brownley

left-at-the-altarA historical romantic comedy, “Left at the Altar ” is set during a time when the US has not standardized time zones yet so that towns can set their own time! And the setting of the story, Two-Time, Texas is in that quandary because there are two jewelers, hence the town has two official time!

What a mess! But, that mess will be fixed soon when the son and daughter of the two opposing jewelers get married. There is only one problem though. The groom, Tommy Farrell left the bride Meg Lockwood at the altar. And the feud continues!

Enter Harvard-trained lawyer Grant Garrison who has been hired to defend the groom from a breach of promise lawsuit for $10,000 (today’s value is $294,000). But the more Grant sees Meg, the more he gets conflicted with the case. How can he defend Farrell when he is falling with the jilted bride?

A heartwarming story with lots of laugh out loud moments. Meg and Grant are so lovable and so are the supporting characters. Author Margaret Brownley made all of them three-dimensional that although the setting was over 100 years ago, you feel that Meg and Grant can be your next door neighbor.

Left at the Altar (A Match Made in Texas)” is Rated T for Teens. There are no sex scenes in this book.

Description

Welcome to Two-Time Texas:
Where tempers burn hot
Love runs deep
And a single marriage can unite a feuding town
…or tear it apart for good

In the wild and untamed West, time is set by the local jeweler…but Two-Time Texas has two: two feuding jewelers and two wildly conflicting time zones. Meg Lockwood’s marriage was supposed to unite the families and finally bring peace. But when she’s left at the altar by her no-good fiancé, Meg’s dreams of dragging her quarrelsome neighbors into a ceasefire are dashed.

No wedding bells? No one-time town.

Hired to defend the groom against a breach of promise lawsuit, Grant Garrison quickly realizes that the only thing worse than small-town trouble is falling for the jilted bride. But there’s something about Meg’s sweet smile and determined grit that draws him in…even as the whole crazy town seems set on keeping them apart.
