The fifth book of the “Winemaker Detective Mystery” series, “Mayhem in Margaux ” gives readers a glimpse of Benjamin Cooker’s personal life.
It’s summer time in Bordeaux and Margaux, Monsieur Cooker’s daughter who currently lives in New York is visiting her parents. But tragedy struck, and this time, it is personal. Benjamin Cooker and his assistant Virgile must hone their amateur sleuth skills into professional level to solve the crime that could turn catastrophic in the blink of an eye.
I’m a big fan of this series. Authors Jean-Pierre Alaux and Noël Balen write with a flourish. Aside from the very engaging storytelling, they also pepper the storyline with famous quotes that are perfect fits for the moment.
Some of them I remember, some of them I only hear for the first time, and thus they become little nuggets of information that I squirrel away in my Evernote for future reference.
And since this is the fifth book, there is also a vested interest in the main characters. Hence, making this very personal for both Benjamin and Virgile is just the right timing. As we learn more about our heroes, the more interesting the series becomes.
“Mayhem in Margaux ” is a perfect new addition (or should I call it episode) in this very successful mystery series.
“Mayhem in Margaux ” is Rated T for Teens due to some violence. There are no sex scenes in this book.
It’s summer in Bordeaux. There’s a heat wave, the vineyards are suffering, vintners are on edge, and wine expert Benjamin Cooker’s daughter is visiting. A tragic car accident draws the Winemaker Detective and his assistant Virgile into a case where the stakes are very personal, and they uncover some dirty secrets hiding behind some of Bordeaux’s finest grand cru classé wines from Margaux.
