Book Review: Nothing to Fear by Juno Rushdan

Nothing to Fear,” book 2 of the “Final Hour” took off from the last scene of “Every Last Breath,” the first book in the series. But this time, fearsome Gray Box operative Gideon Stone and computer whiz and cryptologist Willow Harper have taken center stage.

Hitting the ground running, Gideon and Willow found themselves in the midst of the biggest conspiracy in black ops. Any mistake they made could cost them their lives. And if they screwed up, then everyone they know – family, friends and all of their coworkers would be dead.

With action worthy of the Jason Bourne franchise and intrigues that rival those of Jack Ryan, “Nothing to Fear” brings you inside the Washington D.C. beltway, its suburbs and to the Grand Cayman. Everyone is a suspect, and no one can be trusted, even each other.

But, they have to start somewhere, so Gideon and Willow had to follow their gut instinct, which also led them to give in to the attraction they have for each other.

This sound simple, right? Not for Willow though who has been diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome. Interaction with other people and communicating had always been hard for her. Plus, she could not tell a lie and more often than not, very literal.

So, the normal flirtations that were expected between two people just did not work, which in turn threw Gideon for a loop. So, even with their burgeoning attraction, Gideon and Willow were having a hard time relating. Add the fact that they were always on the run with bullets flying, it was hard to even get into first base!

Well readers, never fear; author Juno Rushdan ably and brilliantly wove Gideon and Willow’s unusual courtship in this mystery/thriller. There were even laugh out loud funny moments. But, don’t be lulled by Juno Rushdan’s fabulous sense of humor. Gideon and Willow’s lives were always in danger and Rushdan never made you forget that.

Nothing to Fear is only Juno Rushdan’s second book, but it is already obvious that she has mastered her craft. A wicked storyteller, her characters are so alive. And in this era of high-tech devices and AI’s, the scenarios presented are so believable that if a conspiracy theorist will have a field day.

Nothing to Fear is Rated T for Teens. Parental guidance strongly advised due to violence, black ops and some sexual scenes.
