Book Review: One Night to Remember by Erica Ridley

In “One Night to Remember,” author Erica Ridley continues to surprise her audience by having a working-class gent in a Regency historical fiction as the romantic hero. Curricle racing champ Giles Langford is a blacksmith by trade and has no aristocratic claims whatsoever.

Felicity Sutton might currently bear the title Lady before her name, but she had poor beginnings before her brother unexpectedly inherited Duke of Colehaven. So, truly she had more things in common with Giles Langford than most members of the haute ton.

But though Felicity and Giles find themselves falling in love, Felicity could not marry him. She needed a husband with a title and riches so that she could realize her dream of founding a charity for orphans. Hence, though snobbery was not the reason, Felicity had to choose between and Lord and not even a Mister because for all intent and purposes, Giles is just another worker who provided service for the aristocrats.

Again, like the first two books before it, “One Night to Remember” also teaches a lesson, i.e. what you are looking for might be just in front of you; only thing you have to do is take the blinders off.

I don’t want to go through the particulars of that one because if I do, there will be spoilers. Let me just say that “One Night to Remember” is Rated T for Teens because the message of this book is as much for them as it is for adults.

Description

From a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author:

Notorious whip Giles Langford is surprised to learn his blacksmith is a girl, shocked to realize she’s the out-of-his-league sister of a duke and horrified to discover he’s fallen in love with the impossible-to-tame woman anyway. With no money and no title, Giles has nothing to offer but his heart…

Felicity Sutton knows poverty firsthand, and she’s never going back. She might miss the smithy, but not the relentless desperation of no home and an empty belly. Of course, she’ll accept the stability of a wealthy ton suitor. As for the penniless daredevil she loves, well… At least they’ll have one night to remember.

Meet the unforgettable men of London’s most notorious tavern, The Wicked Duke. Seductively handsome, with charm and wit to spare, one night with these rakes and rogues will never be enough…
