Book Review: The Professional by Kresley Cole

Rating:

the professionalSteamy sex scenes and full of adrenaline rush due to non-stop action; “The Professional (Game Maker)” by Kresley Cole lived up to its hype. There is never a dull moment; there are even comic reliefs courtesy of girlie conversations between Natalie and her best friend/roommate Jess.

An erotica love story, “The Professional” follows Natalie Porter, a Russian-born Nebraskan who was adopted when she was a baby and Aleksei “The Siberian” Sevastyan, Russian mob enforcer who was sent to the U.S. to retrieve Natalie and bring her back to Russia to be with her long lost father who happens to be a Russian mob boss.

The attraction between Natalie and Aleksei cannot be denied. As already mentioned the scenes are so sexy it can make you hot and bothered.

But, “The Professional” is not merely an erotica book; it is also a coming of age story and it is also a story about familial love. Natalie Porter is a PhD candidate with almost zero real-world experience. Aleksei has no formal education; he learned his lessons from the school of hard knocks. They are counterpoints to each other, which makes their story fascinating.

Author Kresley Cole began the book with Natalie and Aleksei as raw characters. And as the story progressed, we see them grow as both as individuals and as a couple. There is also the friendship with Jess and Natalie; which by the way can segue into another story. And most important, is the budding relationship between Natalie and her father which rounded up her personality.

And though the book still has ways to go to be even near Mario Puzo’s The Godfather series, Kresley Cole’s treatment of the Russian mafiya was an eye opener for me. My knowledge of the Russian mob was vague at best. Reading “The Professional” gave me a much better understanding. For that alone, the book is a great read; add the adrenaline rush and the sexy scenes, it’s fantastic.

This book is Rated M for Mature due to violence and sexual content.
