The debut novel of award-winning author Amanda Bouchet, “A Promise of Fire 
Still, what makes this book (and hopefully this series) a cut above the rest is the integration of the Olympians in the storyline. Fans of Greek mythology know that the gods in Olympus can be petty, spoiled and actually pretty humans at times on how they act.
Amanda Bouchet, while keeping the established canon about the titans in Olympus added something – maturity and caring for someone else other than themselves.
With that thrown into the mix, you have a very lively plot! It is easy to follow and almost linear, but this is the first book in the Kingmaker trilogy so there is a lot of world building and side plots that are being introduced! Talk about intrigue and survival of the fittest.
But, remember that this is also a love story. So, interspersed with the sword fights, flying knives and use of magic is the budding romance between Cat and Griffin. And there is where you see Bouchet’s true prowess as a writer. She made the banter between Cat and Griffin a lot of fun with a lot of tension that readers can relate to.
The dialogue stayed within the lingo of the fantasy world that Bouchet built. Yet, the author made Cat and Griffin relatable and lovable.
Knowing in advance that the Kingmaker series is a trilogy did not stop the disappointment I felt when I reached the last page. I want more! I can’t wait for the next book, Breath of Fire which is coming January 2017. Meanwhile, I plan to re-read “A Promise of Fire
