Book Review: Rocky Mountain Cowboy Christmas by Katie Ruggle

In her new series, “Rocky Mountain Cowboys,” author Katie Ruggle brings her readers to a Christmas tree ranch where Christmas is part and parcel of everyday living and the home of single dad and volunteer fireman Steve Springfield.

For those who have read her two highly successful series, “Rocky Mountain K9 Unit” “Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue,” Steve Springfield is a familiar character having made cameo appearances in the books. “Rocky Mountain Cowboy Christmas” is his story where readers meet all his children, his siblings and a woman from his past, folk artist Camille Brandt whom Steve had known since high school.

A case of love interrupted, Camille has had a huge crush on Steve while they were still in high school. Steve had noticed Camille too, but forgot all about her when he moved away after graduation. Along the way, he got married, had kids and sadly became a widower.

A feel-good book, “Rocky Mountain Cowboy Christmas” is about family and finding love in a very familiar place. It’s about sibling rivalry and familial love. It is as much about romantic love and “ohana,” the Hawaiian word for family and extended family where it takes a village to raise children.

This book is not your usual adrenaline-pumping story from Katie Ruggle. With “Christmas” in the title, it should be expected. But, Ruggle still has surprises instore for the readers. In short, expect the unexpected!

Rocky Mountain Cowboy Christmas” rated T for Teens. Parental guidance advised for some mature themes.
