Book Review: Romance in Italy by Terry Pith

Rating:

A Surprise Read

With the title “Romance in Italy”, I expected the usual sappy love story with the happily ever after (HEA). I got the HEA, alright but I also received “a first” when the author proposed a new paranormal legend – the fishman. As the name implies, the fishman is related to a merman but unlike the merman, fishman has two feet and can live among humans. (Saying more about the fishman will be a major spoiler).

The locale for the novella is a given – Italy of course, specifically the Tuscany seaboard. The story follows Miquel, a sailor who is currently teaching on-board first aid, and Iris who lives in Milan but home for the summer holidays. There is an instant attraction between Miquel and Iris, but both of them harbor a secret and it involves the sea.

A new legend, a romance and a virtual tour of the Tuscany seaboard, this short novella packs a punch. Short, concise and to the point, the author was able to explain the legend of the fishman and get a hot romance going between the protagonists.

A short and enjoyable read! I hope the author writes another so that the fishman legend can grow.

This book is rated PG 17 due to adult situations.
