Book Review: RUSH, Carolina Bad Boys 5 by Rie Warren

rushAfter the adrenaline-pumping “Bad Boys of X-Ops” last summer, Rie Warren is back early autumn with “Rush,” the fifth book in the Carolina Bad Boys series. Rivaling the “Bad Boys of X-Ops” for being high-octane, Rush is a thrilling ride from beginning to end.

The story of Maxwell Rush, (roadname Handsome) and Shiloh Lockheart, “Rush” is about making lemonade when life hands you a lemon. It is also a belated coming of age story and an affluenza kid making the right decision at a crucial point in his life.

If that summary sounds so serious, don’t worry! This is Rie Warren we are talking about. So, expect steamy sexy scenes and drop dead gorgeous protagonists. Expect lots of twists in the plots also especially in Rush which is full of crossovers from the other books in all three series: Carolina Bad Boys, Bad Boys of Retribution MC and Bad Boys of X-Ops.

If this is the first time that you are picking up a book in any of the three series, don’t worry. Rush is a standalone novel and can be enjoyed without reading the other books. But, I have to warn you though. This series is addicting so chances are you will find yourself wanting, even needing to read all 14 books in the series.

But, if you are like me and have been a fan of Warren’s work for a long time, you will enjoy the crossovers. It is good to keep up with our favorite characters. Warren even found the time to expound on their stories and thus developing their characters a little bit more.

A great read! Rush: (Retribution MC Romance) (Carolina Bad Boys Book 5) is Rated M for Mature due to sex and violence. Warning: there are several scenes wherein violence is committed against women.

DESCRIPTION

Hot girls, hot cars, and time behind bars . . . I’m the most unsuitable dude for pretty girl-next-door Shiloh Lockhart.

MAX “HANDSOME” RUSH

I’m the black sheep of the Rush family, cut off from the bourbon distillery dynasty. Shrug. They didn’t approve of the high-octane rap sheet of arrests marring my pretty boy, prep school upbringing. Hot girls, hot cars, and time behind bars for illegal street racing—what can I say? Speed is in my blood.

Now I’ve cleaned up. I’m being good. I’ve got my own plans, and they for damn sure don’t include Shiloh Lockhart. Shy. The goddamn classic girl next door. She shows up out of the clear blue, turning all the MC dudes into drooling manwhores. But not me. I’ve got too much to lose to risk falling for a perfect girl like her.

When Shy’s overprotective folks tell her I’m bad news, they’re right. But come to find out she’s already endured more than her fair share of shit-gone-bad in her life, and she’s convinced I won’t make it any worse. Shy couldn’t be more wrong.

SHILOH LOCKHART

I haven’t seen Max since he got kicked out of the Rush family home years ago. Now I’m determined to get back in touch with the boy I used to crush on growing up. They call him Handsome at the motorcycle club he belongs to, and I can see why. The long dark brown hair. The smoldering whiskey-colored eyes. The sculpted face and big muscled body.

Too bad he’s intent on treating me like a kid sister. Hmm. We’ll see how long that lasts, because to squash this schoolgirl crush I need to be with Max just once . . . turns out one taste of Rush isn’t enough.

My situation is life threatening, but what he’s hiding is even more dangerous. Too late. Rush is already in my blood.
