Book Review: Season of Fear by Christine Bush

Rating:

“Rebecca” in Montana

In the grand tradition of “Rebecca” told in the storytelling style of Daphne du Maurier, author Christine Bush tells the story of Robin North, a 22-year old girl who was recently orphaned and had been hired as a housekeeper at the Ridley Ranch in Hamilton, Montana.

Productive and profitable, everything seems alright at first glance; but the efficiently-ran ranch has a dark cloud hanging over it. Five years ago, its mistress, Laura Ridley, wife of the devastatingly handsome Alexander Ridley was killed. It was ruled as accidental death, but there had been suspicions that Alex was not entirely above board.

Born and bred a city girl, Robin found life at the ranch daunting in the beginning but as she fell in love with the place, her feelings for the Ridley family also grew. Each day, she finds herself falling in love more and more with her boss. Her dreams of a happily ever after with Alex was shattered when the beautiful Deborah arrived at Ridley Ranch.

But, it was not just Deborah that Robin had to worry about. Since her arrival and her undying curiosity to find out what really happened to Laura Ridley, Robin has had several “accidents”. And the more she dig, the more she realizes that there is more than meets the eye when it comes to all the inhabitants of the Ridley Ranch.
