A historical romance thriller, “The Secret Rose” follows Lady Abigail Langdon and Ethan Cambridge, second son of the late Earl of Burnhaven. Practically left at the altar by Ethan’s brother who happens to be the current earl, there is no love lost between their families.
But, Ethan has to bridge the gap somehow so that he can save his family’s finances via Abigail’s sizable dowry. There is only one problem though; Abigail seems to have taken being jilted to heart.
First, I have to say, it was hard to read the first few pages. Don’t get me wrong. It was written well. But, Abigail’s anguish is so heartfelt, that it took me sometime before I could get back to reading. Such is the strength of Laura Landon’s writing. She made it very easy to internalize what the heroine felt.
After that emotional hurdle, the book turned out to be an easy read. A romantic drama thriller, Ethan and Abigail turned to be keepers of secrets. How those secrets were uncovered made the book a true page turner. As one secret is uncovered, another one is revealed! The protagonists could give Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson a run for their money.
With “The Secret Rose,” author Laura Langdon has another winner in her hands.
“The Secret Rose” is Rated T for Teens. Though there are no sex scenes in this book, parental guidance is highly advised due to some parts of the storyline.
