Despite the title “Seducing the Doctor” this book is PG 13. The “seduction” is more mental than physical as the protagonists wrestle with their attraction with each other. And the “doctor” … Well, it’s easy. Both lead characters are doctors. Ashlyn Richards is a renowned plastic surgeon while Reed Algood is a successful pediatrician.
Poignant and sweet, the book is an easy read. Its not a page turner but it catches your attention to the point that once you started reading it and had to put it down for some reason, you want to go back to it ASAP.
***MY TAKE ON THE STORY and SPOILER ALERT***
Reed has a scar that mars his handsome face. Ashlyn wants to correct that disfigurement so bad, she would do anything. But unknown to Reed, Ashlyn has scars too though they cannot be seen. So, though they acknowledge their attraction to each other, both of them keep telling themselves that it won’t work.
Of course, this is a romance novel so a HEA is given. What makes this book stand out is the premise that it was built – beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. In an era where beauty is being worshipped, when going under a knife is considered normal and a girl in her 20s feel that she needs Botox, “Seducing the Doctor” touches on the more noble reasons on why plastic surgery exists. And the book also discusses the shallowness of the reasons why many opt for an elective surgery, thus giving the readers both sides of the coin.
Not a philosophical book at any stretch of the imagination, “Seducing the Doctor” nevertheless makes you think.
