I don’t usually review Harlequin Books because I have a love/hate feeling with this publisher. I requested an ARC from them once and they told me in no uncertain terms that they don’t deal with bloggers. So, I told myself, it’s their loss, not mine.
Anyway, when NetGalley sent a link for a “Read Now” ARC for “Steel Resolve,” like a good Catholic, I turned the other cheek and forgot the insult that Harlequin gave me. After all, I don’t have any beef with the author B.J. Daniels so why would she suffer from some mean words of a publicist from Harlequin.
And I’m glad that I followed the Catholic teaching of turning the other cheek. B.J. Daniels turned out to be an engaging author.
An easy read, “Steel Resolve” follows Chase Steele who left his hometown and childhood sweetheart Mary Cardwell Savage to experience the world, though to Mary’s point of view, it was to “sow his wild oats.”
That point of view is a little bit old fashioned. (Do Gen Z think in terms of “sowing wild oats?). But, with the setting of a small town in Montana, it is easy to take into consideration that people tend to cling to old ways.
While in Arizona, Chase received an old fashion letter (yes, a hard copy handwritten letter written on very feminine stationery). This made up Chase’s mind to go back home. And as he was making his plans, he found out that he accidentally became the object of a fatal attraction. Unfortunately, without his knowledge, his stalker followed him all the way home.
A little bit of mystery plus a little bit of romance equals a good read. This is the first book by B.J. Daniels that I have read, and I totally enjoyed. Thank you NetGalley for sending the ARC as a “Read Now” because requesting a Harlequin book is not on my to-do list.
“Steel Resolve” is Rated T for Teens. Parental guidance strongly advised due to violence.
