Book Review: Steele, Into Your Heart by Rie Warren

Steele, Into Your Heart, Book 3 of the Carolina Bad Boys series by Rie Warren finds Brodie Steele on his way to Bike Week. It is supposed to be his downtime, the week when he sheds off his successful businessman persona and he becomes Brodie Steele, the badass MC dude.

But, somewhere along the way, he crosses path with Ashe Kingston, a sexy police officer with an attitude. Aside from the fact that Brodie does not like cops just in principle, there is bad blood between Ashe and him.

Still, even with two strikes against Ashe, Brodie just cannot deny the attraction between them. And when they finally got together, it was spontaneous combustion.

“Steele, Into Your Heart” is not your typical man meets woman followed by a series of steamy scenes. Granted, author Rie Warren is great in writing erotica. While the time between the bed sheets is scorching, the characters are also real, i.e. they are well developed and three-dimensional.

Brodie Steele is not just a bad boy; he is also a brother, a friend and a mentor. Ashe is not just a woman with a badge. She is also a woman in love with all its complications.

After reading several of her books, I finally figured out that one of Ms. Warren’s strength as a storyteller is that she makes these complex characters lovable.

Brodie is your typical anti-hero; but he is more than just the sum of his parts. Ashe is your typical sweet and loving heroine, but she also has a dark side. That Ms. Warren seamlessly exchanges who the hero and anti-hero are shows a mastery of her craft.

The whole Carolina Bad Boys series actually runs in that vein. Josh Stone, Nicky Love and Brodie Steele might have their own unique personalities but they are cut from the same cloth. But, the women they love are entirely different from each other and make a perfect foil to their man!
