Book Review: The Other Daughter by Miralee Ferrell

Rating:

Good story, repetitive story telling
2 Stars

A story of forgiveness and acceptance, “The Other Daughter” follows the Carson family – David, Susanne, Meagan and Josh, when Brianna arrived in their life. David’s daughter with another woman before he married Susanne but already engaged to her, Brianna’s arrival threw a monkey wrench in the otherwise serene Carson household.

But, even before Brianna came to live with them, there was already a gap between David and Susanne, something that they were trying to bridge but Brianna’s arrival made it wider than before.

This is a Christian novel, but still rated PG because of situational drama. The premise of the novel is inspirational – forgiveness, redemption, second chances and acceptance. I even like the Carsons and their extended family.

What I don’t like is the repetitive nature of the story telling. Brianna was introduced on the first three pages, but the story of her arrival was related to all the main and supporting characters! After the third one, I just had to skip the pages.

Perhaps that’s the reason why I was surprised to find an overwhelming number of 5 star ratings. Maybe I missed a lot of stuff because I did not want to read another dissertation on how Brianna arrived to come to live with the Carsons.
