Book Review: The Shadow Revolution: Crown & Key by Clay Griffith, Susan Griffith

The Shadow RevolutionIf you love action, steam punk and the paranormal, “The Shadow Revolution: Crown & Key” by Clay Griffith and Susan Griffith should be in your summer reading list.

Set in Victorian England, an unlikely posse of defenders and would-be heroes banded together to against supernatural evil. Playboy magic caster Simon Archer met alchemist Kate Anstruther in a party and there are literal sparks between them as they found themselves fighting a powerful werewolf.

All would have been lost but with the Nick Barker, Simon’s mentor and fellow magic caster, they were able to subdue the enemy. That should have been the end of it, right? Wrong! It was just the tip of the iceberg.

Accidentally thrown together to fight a common enemy, Simon, Kate and Nick found themselves in the middle of a power struggle between centuries-old supernaturals and mankind. And if they lose, then the world as we know it will be gone.

Adrenaline-pumping and fast-paced action makes “The Shadow Revolution: Crown & Key” not just another steampunk novel. Clay Griffith and Susan Griffith’s storytelling is so descriptive; you can actually see the action in your mind’s eyes.

It is so good that I won’t be surprised if this book series is opted to be a TV show or movie with an accompanying video game!

Great storytelling, great plot and most of all great book!

The Shadow Revolution: Crown & Key is Rated T for Teens due to violence.

Description

A thrilling new Victorian-era urban fantasy for fans of Kevin Hearne’s Iron Druid Chronicles, the Showtime series Penny Dreadful, and the Sherlock Holmes movies featuring Robert Downey, Jr.

They are the realm’s last, best defense against supernatural evil. But they’re going to need a lot more silver.

As fog descends, obscuring the gas lamps of Victorian London, werewolves prowl the shadows of back alleys. But they have infiltrated the inner circles of upper-crust society as well. Only a handful of specially gifted practitioners are equipped to battle the beasts. Among them are the roguish Simon Archer, who conceals his powers as a spell-casting scribe behind the smooth veneer of a dashing playboy; his layabout mentor, Nick Barker, who prefers a good pub to thrilling heroics; and the self-possessed alchemist Kate Anstruther, who is equally at home in a ballroom as she is on a battlefield.

After a lycanthrope targets Kate’s vulnerable younger sister, the three join forces with fierce Scottish monster-hunter Malcolm MacFarlane—but quickly discover they’re dealing with a threat far greater than anything they ever imagined.
