Book Review: Wizards First Rule by Terry Goodkind

Rating:

Written to be a Mega Epic
5 Stars

I like this book. In fact, I’ve read the whole series in HARD BACK. I even followed on television “The Legend of the Seeker” (now defunct) which was primarily based on this book.

With over 1,225 reviews on this book, why am I still writing one? It’s because like everywhere else – the reviews here and from talking with other sci-fi fans, there really is a mixed feeling about this book. Some hates it, some totally loves it and some are like me – like reading it but not on my top ten favorites.

So, why do I like the book and why amd I giving it 5 stars? Because, Terry Goodkind really wrote something that is worth being a mega epic! Though some will say that the work is derivative, the way he put it together really makes it a very original work.

And for those who says that this is derivative, I have just one question – how many works out there are really based on something that is already there – either from the Greek/Roman mythologies, to the Judeo-Christian religion, to the myths and mythology of all other cultures?

Oh yes, there are still works out there that are truly original. But, those works are still based on something. Who was it who said that civilization is based on people building on top of someone else’s invention. I won’t digress but since man discovered fire, many things had been built from that original concept of “heating” something. That said, we can say that our coffee maker is derivative of man discovering fire!

And that is the reason why I am giving this books 5 stars!!!

Rated PG 17 due to subject matter and fantasy violence
