“Edge of Tomorrow” is Quintessential Tom Cruise

Edge of Tomorrow (31)The promotional poster for “Edge of Tomorrow” says it all – LIVE, DIE, REPEAT. A sci-fi action epic, the story follows Major William Cage (Tom Cruise) as he lives over and over the worst day of his life – he dies!

The story unfolds in the near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault and D-Day is tomorrow. Major William Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop—forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again.

But there is a light in this nightmarish channel. Cage finds Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski ( Emily Blunt) who trains him how to engage the enemy effectively. Together, they have a fighting chance to defeat the enemy and save the world.

If you loved Tom Cruise in “Top Gun” and found his “Mission Impossible” series a thrilling ride, then you will definitely enjoy “Edge of Tomorrow”.

With Tom Cruise older with just a trace of his boyish looks, Cruise’s Major William Cage is a grown up version of Top Gun’s Maverick with Mission Impossible Ethan Hunt’s one track mind to reach an objective.

Emily Blunt buffed up for this role, looking like a futuristic warrior even when stripped off her all the military hardware. Gone are the soft curves of the fashionista in The Devil Wears Prada, yet her Rita Vrataski still managed to be very attractive and sexy.

It’s going to be another blockbuster film for Tom Cruise and probably the launching pad for Emily Blunt as the new female action star.

“Edge of Tomorrow” is being released in theaters across North America on June 6, 2014.

This movie has been rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi action and violence, language and brief suggestive material.
