One of the more popular subgenres in Romance is the MC or Motorcycle Club. As Audible Editor Melissa Bendixen said, “To the uninitiated, a motorcycle club might not seem like the most romantic center for a love story. MCs can have tough, dog-eat-dog rules and can sometimes operate on the fringes of the law. But love can bloom even in the darkest places.”
Case in point, “Ravage Me” by Ryan Michele where the most unlikely couple of Harlow “Princess” Gavelson and Donavon “Cruz” found themselves in a battle with a rival MC while they were also battling what they felt for each other.
Another example is “Rough Justice” by Sarah Castille. In this love story, tough and beautiful Arianne Wilder who hade been raised in a motorcycle gang hooks up with the dangerously sexy Jagger Knight. Knight is the alpha leader of the notorious Sinner’s Tribe who happened to be a rival MC of Arianne’s family.
These rough-and-tumble biker stories might be so far off from their real-life counterparts. But they share one thing though – the clothes they wear, whether in fiction or in real life have their own place in fashion. Fashionistas call it BIKER CHIC.
Designers from all over the world have dabbled in biker chick. From French couturier Jean-Paul Gaultier to New York’s popular designer Marc Jacobs and household name Michael Kors, the interpretation of biker chic ran from edgy to sublime.
Depending on your budget, ladies motorcycle clothing can run as high as $5,000 for a jacket or just a few hundred. There are brick and mortar stores and online shops that specialize in motorcycle clothing.
So, how do you achieve biker chic? Very easy and it begins with leather. Yes, leather clothing. It’s a favorite among bikers whether they are part of an MC or who just love motorbikes. The reason – leather is naturally waterproof, keeps you warm and overall protect you from the elements.
Riding a bike means you are exposed to the wind, the sun and the rain. Keeping warm and dry is very important. So, a leather jacket, leather pants and leather boots are a must. Denim is favorite among bikers, too. Denim jeans and jackets are a nice change of pace from leather.
Whether they are crafted in leather or denim, when you buy jackets, pants, shoes and even skirts, make sure it has lots of hardware like grommets, buckles and the likes. They give a hard edge to the style, which is a must for biker look.
Some might think of gloves as unnecessary during warm months. But, an equal number say it is a must. Those handle bands can be rough on your hands. There are two choices – you can go for full gloves that cover your whole hand or driving gloves which are cut off on the knuckles.
Sunglasses are must-haves. And the most important – helmets! Don’t drive without them. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, 19 states and the District of Columbia have laws requiring all riders (operators and passengers) to wear a helmet. Whether your state has a universal helmet law or not, it is highly recommended to wear a helmet for safety reasons.
And for those who just love technology, another reason to wear a helmet is that they are now sold with Bluetooth technology. This means that you can have GPS and ask Siri for directions if you need to. It can even give you where the nearest restaurant or gas station is. So, it is a win-win for you.
