Max Azria and Lubov Azria to be honored by Academy of Art University

Max Azria is the founder, designer, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the BCBGMAXAZRIAGROUP. One of the most diversified fashion houses in the world,

Azria was inducted into the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) in 1998, and his collections have garnered significant celebrity following such as First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama, Angelina Jolie, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, and Alicia Keys.

Lubov Azria is the Chief Creative Officer of BCBGMAXAZRIA and Max’s wife. Lubov joined the company as a designer in 1991. Under her influence, the brand has become one of America’s leading design houses for women’s ready-to-wear and accessory collections.

In 2004, Lubov and her husband began designing one-of-a-kind gowns for celebrity clients under the name Max Azria Atelier. The following year, Lubov and her design team debuted Hérve Léger by Max Azria, having acquired the couturier in 1998. Lubov was inducted into the CFDA in 2010.

On Thursday, May 9, 2013, the husband and wife design team will be awarded Honorary Doctorate degrees by the School of Fashion at Academy of Art University. Dr. Elisa Stephens, president of Academy of Art University, will present the degrees to the designers at the invitation only event.

Before the fashion show of collections from students who studied in the areas of Fashion Design, Knitwear Design, Technical Design, and Textile Design, select M.F.A. and B.F.A. graduating students will present their work to industry professionals at the Portfolio Review and Reception.

For the first time, the event will take place in the historic Palace of Fine Arts Theatre, which was originally constructed for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition and is located in the Marina District of San Francisco.
