In December 2000, Congress enacted a law that established the “National Moment of Remembrance” and related activities. This law asks all Americans to briefly stop what they’re doing and quietly observe A MINUTE OF REMEMBRANCE at 3:00 PM LOCAL TIME on Memorial Day in an uplifting act of national unity.
Therefore, when we pause for a minute, we remember all the fallen heroes – from the American Revolution to the present – who sacrificed their lives for our freedom.
