Summer Reading: Books, Hats & Sunnies

Summer Reading Books Hats and SunniesWith Memorial Day just around the corner, it’s crunch time where you want to spend the unofficial start of summer. Is it going to be the beach or the mountains? Or is it just going to be a staycation and you will just hang out around the pool?

No matter where Memorial Day takes you, being a book lover means catching up on your reading while you are getting a tan. But, before deciding on which book to read, make sure that you have a hat and a pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes from ultraviolet (UV) rays to save healthy vision in the future.

Ultraviolet rays pose a danger to more than just your skin. They also pose a danger to your eyes. In fact, cumulative UV damage has been linked to the development of macular degeneration, cataract and even cancer. It can also cause immediate injury, such as a corneal sunburn (photokeratitis) that occurs from extended exposure to rays reflected off water, snow or concrete.

Prevent Blindness, the nation’s oldest eye health and safety organization, advises that everyone should wear a brimmed hat and sunglasses to protect the eyes when outdoors. Always choose sunglasses that reduce glare, filter out 100% of UV rays, protect your eyes, are comfortable to wear and do not distort colors.

“As the weather starts to warm and we spend more time outdoors, it’s important to remember never to leave the house without UV protection for the eyes,” said Jeff Todd, president and CEO of Prevent Blindness. “Consistently protecting our eyes today can help save sight in the future.”

That said, bookworms like us should make sure that we are fully kitted for summer. Milliners like Beach Hare Hats offers chic straw hats with select customizable details, all of which are handmade in New York City.

If you are looking for some edgy looking and high tech sunnies, try German optical company Lunor AG. Its A5 collection has a pure, well-balanced design with attention to detail. Stylish and timeless, the Lunor A5 uses colored glasses in striking colors with the frame designed to complement the shape of your face.

Now, it’s the time to choose the book to bring. If you want some light reading and hot romantic heroes, Audrey Carlan’s “International Guy: Paris, New York, Copenhagen ” is the book for you.

Three novellas in one book, it follows three men who are code named The Dream Maker, The Love Maker, and The Money Maker. They live in three different cities – Paris, New York, Copenhagen but they also travel so expect them to jet across the Atlantic.

Parker Ellis is the central character with his two friends as his wingman. The first client is a perfume heiress. Forget fraternization rules because they were totally ignored. Steamy scenes are a big part of the story, so expect under the sheets action.

If you want some serious reading that will tug at your heartstrings, Liz Talley’s “Come Home to Me” is a must-read. A story of healing, friendship and forgiveness, “Come Home To Me” follows three frenemies – Summer Valentine, Hunter “Hunt” McCroy and Rhett Bryan.

All three of them left their hometown under shady circumstances to pursue a career. All three became successful but had also reached a plateau with their careers. Needing to recalibrate before they make their next moves, they go back to Moonlight, South Carolina and found themselves unwittingly interacting with each other once again.

There are some sweet moments but there were more heart wrenching ones. Make sure you have a box of tissue near you to wipe tears away.

Description: Come Home To Me

Healing the wounds of the past doesn’t come easy in this novel of friendship and forgiveness from award-winning author Liz Talley.

Summer Valentine has returned to Moonlight, South Carolina, a very different woman from the naive wallflower who left years before. These days she’s straightforward and savvy, determined to do right by her son, David—even if that means cashing in her struggling music career in Nashville and returning to the town that drove her away. Sure, she took a fall. But at least she now knows where she stands…

Despite her anger over the past, Summer believes David deserves a relationship with his father, Hunter “Hunt” McCroy. Though Hunt’s illustrious career has faded, privilege still protects him from his worst mistakes.

Someone else is back in Moonlight too: Rhett Bryan, the golden boy of Hollywood, who’s taking stock of his own life after a tragic accident. As his rekindled friendship with Summer quickly deepens, she must reconcile the painful history that ties her to both men—one she’s finally forgiven, one she’s afraid to love—to claim healing and happiness.

Description: International Guy: Paris, New York, Copenhagen

From Audrey Carlan, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Calendar Girl series.

My name is Parker Ellis. You can call me The Dream Maker. This is where my story begins.

There’s a world of women waiting for me, but my journey starts here, in three cities: Paris. New York. Copenhagen.

International Guy Inc. is owned and operated by Parker Ellis, a ladies’ man with a high IQ and a big libido. He’s the most successful life and love coach in the world, and he’s smart enough to know he can’t run a multimillion-dollar company alone.

He hires two friends whose areas of expertise complement his own. They comprise The Dream Maker, The Love Maker, and The Money Maker. Together, they advise the wealthiest people in the world: Hollywood hotshots, European royalty, and the CEOs of multibillion-dollar companies. And sometimes they can’t help it when things heat up and they end up in bed with their clients. Quite literally.

This International Guy likes his playboy lifestyle, and he’s not looking for commitment. After all, there’s a whole world waiting for him. But as he goes from city to city, and from woman to woman, it’s possible that he just might find his own love along the way…

This volume includes the first, second, and third International Guy novellas.
