Dubai-based Lebanese designer Zayan Ghandour will present for her third time at FFWD this April. Her brand, Zayan the Label, debuted at Paris Fashion Week in 2011 to wide acclaim.
Zayan’s collections offer girly, contemporary luxury ready-to-wear designs using a mixture of fabrics, vivid colours and innovative silhouettes. www.zayan.com
Designer Zayan Ghandour’s main inspiration for the AW14 collection is the 1990 classic: “Pretty Woman”, with many of the pieces directly referencing outfits worn by Julia Roberts in the film and, of course, “I want the Fairytale” being one of her famous quotes.
But this is no ordinary fairytale. The Zayan the Label girl is a renegade princess, marching towards her own destiny. The collection’s fabrics are custom designed around the theme: Love Words embroidered lace, sweats with sheer paneling, and themed patches, puff lace in pastel pink as well as a structured airtex neoprene story in lilac, navy and black.
The collection also features a unique Toile de Joie print with fairytale motifs. The birds, ribboned bows and crocodiles also inspired a series of patches including Miss Croc, the season’s signature character. The bomber jackets story is inspired by Julia Robert’s best friend, Kit, naturally.
