NEW YORK, May 8, 2012/ — On April 28th, the 2nd Annual Comedy Awards held April 28th at The Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City and was broadcasted after the fact on Sunday, May 6th on Comedy Central.
With so many “Awards” being given nowadays, it really is not surprising that someone thought of giving comedians awards. After all, comedy is serious business.
Yet, some of the categories are trite like the Best Comedic Film (Bridesmaids), Best Actor (Jean Dujardin – The Artist), Best Actress (Melissa McCarthy – Bridesmaids ), Best Director (Paul Feig – Bridesmaids), Best Screenplay (Bridesmaids)
There were also a whole slew of categories specific for Television. There was even a people’s choice section.
There is of course the mandatory red carpet wherein actors Will Arnett, Ed Helms, Ty Burrell and Joel McHale were spotted, all of whom were wardrobed by Calvin Klein Collection with looks designed by Italo Zucchelli, the brands’ Men’s Creative Director.
Mr. Arnett, who was a presenter for the evening, wore a charcoal grey wool two-button peak lapel suit, white dress shirt and black tie from the Spring 2012 Calvin Klein Collection;
Mr. Helms, who was a presenter for the evening, wore a black chinz wool two-button peak lapel suit, white dress shirt and black bow tie from the Spring 2012 Calvin Klein Collection;
Mr. Burrell, who was a presenter for the evening, wore a grey wool one-button notch lapel suit, white dress shirt and black tie from the Spring 2012 Calvin Klein Collection; and
Mr. McHale, who was a presenter for the evening, wore a navy wool one-button peak lapel tuxedo with waist coat, white dress shirt and black tie from the Spring 2012 Calvin Klein Collection.
In short, all the glitz and drama usually associated with a high profile awards night was there. And, these comedians did catch our attention, though there was no doubt about that.
But, I believe that the bigger question is – will they stay in our collective consciousness? Or, will the Comedy Awards be one of those events that we hear about but never really pay attention to?
