To me, any romance book with a “billionaire” in the title is suspect for the main reason that most of them turn out to be cheesy or worse, they are just pandering to have a heroine fall for an extremely rich guy. But not Broken: A Billionaire Love Story. The book is not about money or riches. It’s about redemption.
The hero Shane Conway is an anti-hero. Aside from being heir to a multi-billion dollar company, he has nothing to offer a woman.
An alcoholic and an addict, even a failed poet, Shane spends his time hiding from himself and his failures.
The heroine Olivia is just trying to make it. No, she is not a victim nor a product of a dysfunctional family.
She is ordinary – a college graduate who has to work two jobs because she is having a hard time finding a full time job as a social worker cum counselor. She’s the girl next door pretty. She’s not fat enough to be a plus size but she is not model-thin either.
Yes, this is romance, yes there are enough steamy sex scenes to make this book Rated M for Mature, but most of all, there is remorse, forgiveness and love that makes the characters so human.
A must-read for all book lovers.
