Original Sin Book Series: Unlikely Hero and Heroine

Featuring an unlikely hero and heroine, the Original Sin book series is a dark comedic romance with lots of action. A collaboration by New York Times bestselling author, JA Huss, and veteran actor and writer, Johnathan McClain the four-book series showcase the strength of both writers as storytellers while also giving readers a fast-paced narrative that are engaging and hard to put down.

The first book, “Sin with Me” introduces protagonists Maddie Clayton, a college-educated stripper and Tyler Bell, a former soldier with PTSD issues. Their meeting was unconventional (definitely not the meet-cute variety) and even their falling in love was the least bit romantic. And therein lies the genius of the writing of the book.

JA Huss wrote Maddy’s POV while Johnathan McClain wrote Tyler’s POV. The banter between the two characters is so seamless that it is hard to see where JA Huss’s writing ends and Johnathan McClain’s begins, and vice-versa. This teamwork could be experienced by the readers in all 4 books. It’s funny, it’s sexy and fast paced. There were also so many mentions of the current pop culture that it is so easy to fall  in love with the book. Personally, I will put Huss and McClain as one of the top writing duos today,

As already mentioned, “Sin with Me” introduces the main characters while also providing their back stories. It ends in a cliffhanger because Maddy and Tyler’s story is far from done, but the plot for this portion of the series is finished, thus the reader does not feel cheated.

Angels Fall” begun where the first book ended. It gives more information about the drug lord Carlos Castillo who was mentioned in the first book. The introduction of this new character changed the dynamics between Maddy and Tyler. Minor characters were also fleshed out, thus giving the series more depth and width. The unconventional romance between Maddy and Tyler also grew with the threat from Castillo.

Once again, the book ended with a cliffhanger but with the main plot of this second book wrapped up. JA Huss is very good at doing that. She always makes sure that readers get their happy ending while also keeping them very interested to know what happens next.

Flesh into Fire” is action from beginning to end. As a reader, I felt that Johnathan McClain is the dominant writer on this one, that is, he was the one driving the story and the character development. In this third book, Tyler leads while Maddy, though she remains as a kick ass heroine is the follower.

Passion Rising” is the conclusion of Maddy and Tyler’s story. From the start their happily ever after is within reach, but they still have to face their past and make amends both to others and themselves. In this final installment of the series, our protagonists saw personal growth. It might feel like a coming-of-age story, yet it is much more than that.

All four books in the Original Sin Book Series were narrated by Ava Erickson and Tad Branson, the narrator screen name of Johnathan McClain. Both of them added dimensions to Maddy and Tyler. By the time you reach the fourth book, you would feel that you know the two main characters inside and out. Perfect casting for book.
